Temp( 5 months or longer)

Employee will analyze financial information and programs, completes accounting entries, identifies financial trends, and communicates effectively with customers, team members and management. Prepares a full range of financial reports, including specialized or non-standard reports. May serve as lead worker and / or assist in supervising or supporting lower level staff.

Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards

  1. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Correctly applies various accounting theories according to GAAP, governmental accounting standards, applicable state and federal guidelines and agency fiscal policies and procedures
  • Carefully reviews documentation, entries and reports
  • Accurately and completely records financial transactions according to GAAP
  • Reviews and analyzes general ledger accounts accurately for fiscal integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Corrects general ledger accounts based on timely recognition of problems and accurate identification for required adjustments
  • Coordinates work with colleagues to provide accurate and meaningful financial reports
  • Records journal entries accurately and in a timely manner

  1. Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas
  • Performs adequate research and analysis of collected data for the preparation of reports
  • Collaborates with end-user, or designated representative, before preparing the requested report
  • Confers with other professionals or separate authorities to obtain advice, information, or resources required to create the format or input of the reports needed
  • Develops format and reports to meet specified needs while assuring conformity with appropriate measurement focus or basis of accounting
  • Ensures accuracy or reports by verifying output and making corrections as appropriate
  • Submits completed reports within established time frames

  1. Analyzes business operations, costs, revenues, financial commitments, obligations, etc.
  • Performs work in a timely manner utilizing appropriate theory and judgment and ensuring its conformity with specified principles, measurement focus, policies, and regulations
  • Analyzes complex reconciliation documents and other information to arrive at logical and accurate conclusions
  • Determines appropriate corrective action to take when faced with discrepancies
  • Adequately analyzes the effects of transactions or reports

4. Applies GAAP, state or federal fiscal guidelines, and agency policies to establish tables/records of accounts or financial transactions, review financial data, and assign entries or apply accounting control measures to proper accounts
  • Applies appropriate accounting theory and principles in the evaluation process
  • Identifies discrepancies between existing procedures and those that are generally accepted or that will result in greater efficiency or operational effectiveness
  • Formulates specific recommendations based upon analysis of systems, subsystems, and procedures
  • Submits for consideration a timely report of findings that includes advantages to be realized should the recommendations be adopted

5. Establishes tables of accounts, and assigns entries to proper accounts
  • Identifies need to develop or revise policies and procedures. Initiates appropriate
  • Appropriately researches policies and procedures for applicability and consistency and for compliance with rules, regulations, guidelines, standards, or related policies and procedures
  • Carefully monitors newly developed and/or revised policies and procedures for effectiveness and viability

6. May assist in supervising less experienced staff
  • Communicates regularly with staff on progress toward defined goals and/or required results; providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when defined goals and /or results are not met
  • Confers regularly with staff to review employee relation' s climate, specific problem areas and actions necessary for improvement
  • Recognizes contributions and celebrates accomplishments
  • Motivates staff to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provides training and development opportunities as appropriate

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and standards
  • Ability to produce spreadsheets and financial reports
  • Ability to enter financial transactions related to revenue collections and accounts payable. Ability to query, analyze, and present information extracted
  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports
  • Skill in job relevant database software
  • Knowledge of job-relevant policies and procedures at the state and federal levels
  • Skill in using various Accounting systems to run Queries, create reports, and reconcile bank statements in order to monitor budget and financial transactions

Candidate must have a bachelor' s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND two years of professional accounting experience OR completion of a bachelor' s degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence AND three years of professional accounting experience OR completion of a master' s degree in accounting AND one year professional accounting experience.

2. Experience with Revenue Collections
3. Experience booking accounts payable transactions
